1. Regular cleaning of 925 silver jewellery

Frequent maintenance is recommended to prevent silver from tarnishing quickly. Here are some simple and effective methods:

Silver polishing cloth: One of the simplest methods is to use a cloth specially designed for polishing silver. These cloths are impregnated with cleaning products that help to remove light traces of tarnish while restoring the jewellery's shine. We recommend that you use this cloth after each use of the jewellery for quick maintenance Warm water and mild soap: If your silver jewellery is slightly tarnished, you can clean it with warm water and mild soap (avoid soap containing ammonia or abrasive agents). Soak the jewellery in this solution for a few minutes, then rub gently with a soft cloth. Rinse with clean water and dry carefully to avoid water spots.

2. Precautions to be taken to avoid oxidation

Oxidation is a natural phenomenon that occurs when silver comes into contact with air or other substances. To prevent or delay this process, here are a few precautions to take:

Avoid exposure to moisture and chemicals: Silver jewellery must be protected from moisture and chemicals such as perfumes, sun creams, lotions and even sweat. It is advisable to remove your silver jewellery before swimming, playing sport or taking a shower. Similarly, apply your cosmetics before putting on your jewellery to prevent it coming into contact with these substances.
Proper storage: When you're not wearing your silver jewellery, it's important to store it in a dry, airtight place. Use cloth pouches, lined jewellery boxes or airtight bags to limit their exposure to moisture and air. Adding a sachet of silica or a piece of chalk to your jewellery box can help absorb moisture.

Wearing jewellery regularly: Surprisingly, wearing your silver jewellery regularly can help reduce tarnishing. Natural friction with the skin helps to maintain their shine. However, it's important to clean your jewellery after wearing it, especially if you've been sweating.

3. Professional care for 925 silver jewellery

For jewellery made of very precious silver or containing stones, it may be preferable to leave the cleaning to a professional. Jewellers have specialised tools at their disposal, such as ultrasonic baths and professional products, which enable them to clean thoroughly without damaging the stones or delicate finishes.

Regular checks: As well as cleaning, it's a good idea to have the following inspected
have your jewellery checked regularly by a professional to ensure that the clasps, mountings and stones are in good condition, especially if you wear them a lot.

4. What to avoid to protect your 925 silver jewellery

Abrasive products: It is essential to avoid using abrasive cleaners or rough sponges that can scratch the surface of the silver.

Strong chemical solutions: Cleaners containing ammonia, chlorine or bleach are too aggressive for sterling silver and can damage it irreparably.

Excessive polishing: Polishing too often, especially with chemicals, can lead to premature wear of the metal. Limit this operation to times when the silver is visibly tarnished.

Conclusion

Taking care of your 925 silver jewellery requires regular maintenance and precautions to preserve its beauty and sparkle. Gentle, frequent cleaning with appropriate products, combined with proper storage, will help prevent oxidation. By following this advice, your silver jewellery will remain beautiful and sparkling for many years.
